Illegal Immigrants Damage Enviroment

I knew I had read about this in the past in Backpacker magazine, but I could never find the article, so I never posted it.
InMuscatine

Drug smugglers fleeing Mexican police crossed into this desert park and
fatally shot a ranger four years ago, prompting officials to build a 30-mile vehicle barrier.

That steel-and-concrete wall stops most cars from speeding in from Mexico. But drug and
human traffickers have switched to rural entryways into Arizona.

Thousands of people now cross on foot. They leave piles of trash, build fires, damage the
park's famous cacti and create countless trails through the fragile desert vegetation.

Park workers spend most of their time backing up Border Patrol officers and dealing with
border issues.

"This tears my heart out, seeing the impacts on this place," Organ Pipe superintendent
Kathy Billings said as she surveyed a fresh track through coarse sand.

So where the hell are all the hand-wringing, tree-hugging, Gaia-worshiping bleeding-hart
Enviro-wackos?!? Heaven forfend I drive a dune buggy over some ersatz endangered critter
nobody ever heard of before. I would be spending the rest of my natural life in prison. But
let illegal aliens trash the landscape and you don't hear a peep out of the likes of
Greenpeace, Nature Conservancy, Earth Liberation Front, or the World Wildlife Fund.

Their collective silence is deafening, and their hypocrisy shameful.

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument allows the life of the Sonoran Desert to flourish under nearly ideal wilderness conditions. The monument is an outstanding natural preserve where one of the of the Earth's major ecosystems survives almost unspoiled. Recognizing its significance, the United Nations in 1976 designated the momument as an International Biosphere Reserve. Conservation and scientific research, including studies of human impact on the desert, will be invaluable in protecting the life of the desert.

It's only damaging the environment when America does it!

This is the reason that we refused to sign the Kyoto treaty. It gives a pass to lesser nations becase "they're desperate, or they can't help it."
